First, We at the National Weather Service want to pass on to the Amateur Radio community and our hope for a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
Skywarn Recognition Day 2011 will be this December 3 from 0000z to 2400z. We are looking for volunteers to be operators and loggers for this event. The event starts at 6 pm CDT, Friday December 2 and ends 6 PM CDT, Saturday December 3.
In the Kansas City area there are two locations where Amateur radio operators can visit the National Weather Service and participate in this special event.

To volunteer please send your name, call and time (local) that you would be available and prefer. Two hour shifts are normally used.

Pleasant Hill (KC0SKY) will have HF phone and VHF stations Central Region Headquarters (KC0NWS) will operating on HF phone, VHF, PSK, APRS, winlink and echolink.
This is the thirteenth SKYWARN Recognition Day. The first was held in December 1999. The intention was to conduct a test to show how communication could be maintained regardless of what would happen during the dreaded Y2K. Today the event has grown to most of the 100 plus Weather Service Office across the country.
